The Beatles Tribute act

The Upbeat Beatles

Profile

Raw powerhouse vocals, pumped out with a driving backbeat.

There isn’t a band to touch them! No gadgets-3 amps and drums! The nearest you’ll ever get to the real thing!

The History The long and winding road to the Beatles
BADFINGER - THE BEATLES - THE AVERAGE WHITE BAND - NILLSON - SIR CLIFF RICHARD - THE ROLLING STONES

Question - What do all the above artistes have in common?
Answer - John Wilson who plays Paul McCartney in The Upbeat Beatles.

John’s first major recording contract was with a band called The Dodgers, which he formed with Tommy Evans who, of course, was formerly bass player vocalist and writer with rock legends Badfinger - the group signed to The Beatles’ record label, Apple, and their debut album was produced by none other than George Harrison and Sir Paul McCartney!

John later starred with Ringo Starr in the movie ‘Willy and the Poor Boys’, which also featured members of The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Faces and Chris Rea. Harry Nilsson was one of the famous four, along with none other than John Lennon, Ringo Starr and Keith Moon! His worldwide number one hit ‘Without You’ (which was also a number one hit for Mariah Carey many years later) was written by Tommy Evans and Pete Ham, who originally recorded the song with Badfinger. Sadly, Pete and Tommy both took their own lives – a well documented rock tragedy.

In 1986, John joined The Average White Band (AWB) as lead vocalist and co-writer, replacing Hamish Stewart who had left the band to work with – you’ve guessed it – Sir Paul McCartney. Whilst in AWB, John wrote many successful songs for, amongst others, Sir Cliff Richard and Bill Wyman.

Not only is John touring the country and the world with the Upbeat Beatles performing 150 shows a year - BERMUDA,USA,ITALY,CHINA! He is also very busy recording his own music and a follow up album to his critically acclaimed ‘Daddy Sang the Blues’.

So, who are the ‘other’ members of The Upbeat Beatles and what is their claim to fame?

Roger Channing (John Lennon) – was the main songwriter in Hot Stuff, a rock/pop band that was signed to Ariola (now RCA) with whom they had 3 hit singles. Hot Stuff toured extensively worldwide and appeared on the TV show ‘New Faces’, finishing as runners up to Patti Boulaye. During his busy and varied musical career, Roger has performed in many prestigious venues including The Empire (Leicester Square), The Park Lane Hilton Hotel and Skibo Castle, Scotland (Madonna and Guy Richie’s wedding venue) to name but a few.

Colin Yates (George Harrison) – is a classically trained guitarist, having studied at Trinity College of Music in London. He has played music all of his life and has been a professional musician for 20+ years, during which time he has performed with countless musicians at legendary venues such The Marquee and The Jazz Café. It’s a well known fact in the business that Colin is the best ‘tribute’ George there is! Often referred to as the “quiet one”, Colin hasn’t spoken since August 1962!

Paul Jarrett (Ringo Starr) – has been a drummer for as long as he can remember! When he was 13 years old, his Dad bought him his first drum kit and since then he’s played live and recorded with, numerous bands at all of the prestigious music venues/studios in the UK. He has a powerful voice, making him one of the few singing Ringos in the business.
